About the Project

Senjuin is an ancient temple with 1,300 years of history, said to have been founded by Kobo Daishi Kukai in the early Heian period. However, it long stood without a resident priest, frozen in time, and suffered serious damage in the 2024 Noto Peninsula Earthquake.

This project is a challenge to revive Senjuin, on the brink of becoming an abandoned temple, as a hub for recovery tourism — a place where people gather, learn, stay, and support the future of Noto.

We will restore the main hall and prepare places to stay, while creating opportunities for people from across Japan to visit Noto through experiences such as sutra copying and Buddhist cuisine, and through events.
